The centrepiece for this year's Christmas Concert is 'A Winter's Night' by Cecilia McDowall. The concert is on Saturday 8th December 2018 at Union Baptist Church - why not put it in your diary now?

Our Christmas Concert is - as always - a fundraiser for charity. Each year the choir members suggest local or a national charities that have particular significance to them, and we vote. This year, our chosen charity is Alzheimer's Society. The nomination below explains why:

"Everybody ... will have a contact or family member with some form of dementia. Because the fear of dementia now almost exceeds that of cancer, it can be a bit of a Cinderella charity where fundraising is concerned, as it lacks the "feel good" factor. Whereas Alzheimer's Research will one day lead to means of allaying or preventing dementia, there are many families coping day to day with the condition right now and Alzheimer's Society is mainly concerned with them.

[I help] out at a local support group for carers of people with dementia, and [am] impressed with the way the Outreach Worker keeps abreast of changes in the local authority and Bucks NHS support available, and can advise on daycare etc.

There are also some Alzheimer's Society activities that people can attend with those they care for such as "Singing for the Brain", a Befriending scheme for those who live alone and are still in the earlier stages of dementia, and a Memory Clinic liaison service for those who have been referred by their GP.
